Authentic German Red Cabbage (Rotkohl)

Instructions
  1. Melt lard in large 6 quart Duth oven. Saute bacon until it begins to brown. Add onions & apples and saute for about 8 minutes. Add cabbage and saute for 5 more mintes. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Lower heat and simmer for one hour.
  2. Serve warm or cold.
